Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or case number submitted through a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Ellis County Court Docket does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or other direct message as needed to answer it. Such correspondence remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a visitor loads a page, the site may automatically receive basic technical and usage details:
- Page-view dates and times
- Pages opened and the time spent on them
- Device category and operating system
- Browser name and version
- Your device's IP address
- A referring website, when one exists
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic in aggregate, including popular pages and points where visits end. You may block cookies through your browser, although doing so can change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Finding and correcting technical problems
- Maintaining site availability and performance
- Presenting advertising that may reflect visitor interests
- Routing a submitted query to the appropriate search partner
- Assessing which pages are useful and which may need improvement
No Court-Record Data on File
Ellis County Court Docket does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case records. It provides general directions for finding Ellis County records through the Clerk of the District Court in Hays, the Ellis County District Court, and Kansas District Court Public Access. The website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information entered there is governed by the provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices, so review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Kansas court resources, the Ellis County clerk, legal-aid organizations, or independent search services. Once you leave this website, the destination's policy controls its handling of information. Review that policy before providing personal details.
Some advertising providers may use activity across websites to select ads. That processing occurs on the providers' systems, not ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query you submit
- Advertising networks serving ads on the pages
- Government authorities or law enforcement acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
We use customary safeguards for information in our possession. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed completely secure, however, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor provided such information, we will remove it promptly.
Your Data Rights
Kansas law may provide rights concerning certain personal information. Separately, access to official Ellis County court records is governed by the Kansas Open Records Act, K.S.A. 45-215 et seq., together with Kansas Supreme Court Rules 22 and 123. Those authorities concern government and court records; they do not convert this private website into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Request deletion of personal data we retain
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Seek correction of inaccurate information
- Opt out of eligible forms of data processing
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this policy from time to time. A revised policy will appear here with its new effective date, so visitors should review this page periodically.
